Hands on Learning

“Play is the work of the child”
Children learn through play as they learn through experience. From birth to age 6, the child is able to learn new things effortlessly and unconsciously, just by being in the right environment and having opportunities to explore. Dr. Montessori called the concept the “absorbent mind”. It means that the child is able to “absorb” new information like a sponge.

Learning Skills

Montessori education leads to independence. It encourages exploration and teaches children to take responsibility for themselves, their belongings, and the environment. The Montessori schedule often includes practical activities like sweeping or personal care.

Prepaired Envioroment

The prepared environment is an
essential part of the Montessori method. It should be an environment of beauty, where children can move freely and act independently. The Montessori environment should also be structured and have meaningful order. It may seem counter-intuitive to the “freedom of movement” but the truth is- children love order and routine. It helps them to navigate the world they live in.

Observation and Discovery

Observation is done by following the child, gauging their interest, and inviting lessons that stimulate and foster their development period. Children go through a sensitive period where they focus on a particular activity, till they feel it is mastered or has exhausted their attention.

"The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn."

- Maria Montessori

From Our Parents

My 12-week-old daughter has attended the Libertyville school for a week. As a first-time mom, they have been sweet - knowledgeable - and loving. They have helped already with her gassiness and sleeping. I couldn't ask for more loving teachers! Can't wait to see what the future holds.

Parent Review

My son started going here when he was 3, almost 4. All the teachers have been very caring and have taken great care of my son. My son has always had good things to say about the teachers there and he's made many good friends here. The teachers and directors are very flexible. The place is always clean and the playground is safe.

Parent Review

My son currently attends this school, and he loves it. I highly recommend this school. The director does an amazing job! My son is special needs and the teachers go above and beyond to help out. They accommodate with whatever my son needs. I have no worries when my son is there. Thank you for everything you do!

The Montessori Philosophy

Dr. Maria Montessori was, in many ways, ahead of her time. Born in 1870 in Ancona Italy, she became the first female physician by graduating from the University of Rome medical school in 1896. In her medical practice, clinical observations led her to analyze how children learn from what they find in their immediate environment. In 1907, she accepted the challenge to work with a group of sixty children of working parents in the slum section of San Lorenzo, Italy. It was there that she founded the first Casa dei Bambini, or "Children's House." What ultimately became the Montessori Method of education developed there, based upon Montessori's scientific observations of these children's almost effortless ability to absorb knowledge from their surroundings. Every piece of equipment, every exercise, every method Montessori developed was based on observing what children do "naturally", by themselves.
